New Maruti Suzuki Brezza Launching Event

Now that the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza has been launched, we compare it to the outgoing model to see what has been  changed and what new features to it. We also see how the update has affected vehicle pricing.

When wetalk about compact SUVs, there are many models to choose from. Almost every mainstream manufacturer in India has a player in this highly demanded sought-after SUVs segment. Maruti Suzuki was a little late to the party with the Vitara Brezza, but that didn't stop them from quickly rising to the top of the sales charts and leading the race. In the month of July, we got the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza which not only got new updates but also got a change in the product name. Maruti Suzuki hopes that the buyer of the older car will have more technology and features while promising more efficiency. With the new update, the product is no longer called Vitara Brezza, the name Vitara has been removed, it is now just known as only Brezza. So besides the name of the brand , what else has changed?

2022 Maruti Brezza is offered with 1.5 liter mild hybrid powertrain

Maruti Suzuki was hugely successful with its first subcompact SUV space with the Vitara Brezza. Now, in order to continue the trend, the automaker has introduced the second generation model. The new Maruti Suzuki Brezza gets a significant re-styling fresh design as well as an all-new interior. We tested the petrol automatic version to find out how smooth and other changes includes that made it better, premium, features rich from previous one.

Exteriors

The car has a rough SUV   attitude. You can easily recognize the new Brezza by its sharper styling and tougher stance. The front gets a new hood and a new dual-LED headlight setup along with a larger grille in grey. Thicker trim and new 16-inch alloy wheels are the main changes on the sides, while slim LED taillights freshen up the rear styling.

Interiors

Brezza interior

The interiors are much better quality. The interiors are now much more premium and offer better quality as well. We like the new brown-and-black two-tone upholstery and silver trim that runs across the entire dashboard. Even the doors are heavier now. Elsewhere, there's a new touchscreen infotainment system and a redesigned center console. There are digital-analog dials with a larger center screen along with a head-up display.

Space

The Brezza continues to be the most spacious SUV in its class thanks to a more spacious cabin as well as a wider rear seat. Despite the small transmission tunnel, three passengers can easily fit in the back, and the presence of rear AC vents is welcome. Storage space is plentiful, but its 328-litre boot is slightly smaller than its rivals.

Features

From a 360-degree camera to a head-up display

The equipment list is now built with class leading with the addition of several new features. The new Brezza has a 9.0-inch touch screen, an electronic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and a head-up display. There is also connected car technology, wireless charging, ambient lighting, automatic air conditioning or the Arkamys audio system. In terms of safety, it will get ESC and six airbags.

Performance

The automatic transmission is smooth

The 2022 Brezza continues with a single petrol powertrain, which is a 1.5-liter mild hybrid unit with 103 hp/137 Nm. In addition to the standard 5-speed manual transmission, there is now a 6-speed torque converter automatic with paddle shifters. The engine is smooth and refined at low speeds, while the automatic transmission further eases the driving experience. This means it lacks the muscular mid-range associated with turbo petrols.

Ride quality

The car has excellent ground clearance

The durable suspension is another highlight and the excellent ground clearance makes it better suited to our roads. Handling is neutral at best, but the steering is better than the previous Brezza, although it's still too light. As for fuel consumption, we got an excellent 13-14km/l for the automatic version with combined city and highway driving.

Is it worth your money?

The range-topping petrol automatic version, as tested here, is priced at Rs. 13.96 lakh (ex-showroom) and is the biggest drawback of the car. It's too expensive and also more expensive than rivals with turbo petrol engines. However, the extended equipment list and space on offer somewhat justify the price, and overall it's still a solid buy.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza: New vs Old Comparison

Now that the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza has been launched, we compare it to the outgoing model to see what has changed and what new features it has. We also see how the update has affected vehicle pricing.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza New vs Old: Exterior Design

The 2022 iteration of the Brezza gets a lot of cosmetic changes, including a new front grille. It can be seen that the chrome grille has been changed. Now you have a black element in the middle with some chrome accents on top. The headlight assembly has also been slightly redesigned to blend well with the grille. It houses LED projector headlights that now have a built-in follow me home feature. Lowered, the LED fog lights embedded in the bumper are also more compact than before and there is no longer a separate cover around them. There's a new bumper and faux skid plates that give the Brezza a rugged look.

The wheel size remains the same at 16 inches, but the cast design is much more modern. You can also see a more prominent black cladding running across the bottom end of the new model. At the rear, there's a new, sleeker LED tail lamp that looks a lot better than the boxy cluster in the old Brezza. The chrome element  has been moved further down and the chrome element is no longer there. Instead, the Brezza branding is stamped on the tailgate itself, similar to many other vehicles on the market today.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza New vs Old: Dimensions 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (Old) Length 3995 mm 3995 mm Width 1790 mm 1790 mm Height 1685 mm 1640 mm Wheelbase 25020 mm New Suzuki Brezza 25020 mm v20 mm

There is no massive change in the overall size and dimensions of the Vitara Brezza and Brezza. The new model has a height of 1685 mm, which is 45 mm higher than the old model, which stood at 1640 mm. Even the 2500mm wheelbase and 3995mm length are similar for the old and new models. You will be able to store the same amount of luggage in the 328. Even the luggage compartment of both vehicles is identical at 328 liters.

While the Vitara Brezza used to come with a predominantly black interior, the new Brezza also has a two-tone variant. To further enhance the ambience of the cabin, Maruti Suzuki has even equipped it with ambient lighting. There's a new flat-bottomed steering wheel that looks sharper, and a redesigned semi-digital instrument cluster just behind it. The 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment unit is replaced by a larger 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ screen, and you also get next-generation Suzuki Connect features. One thing you had in the old Brezza but won't fit in the new one is the passenger side overhead storage box.

With the 2022 new update, Maruti Suzuki has now finally given the Brezza an electronic sunroof feature in it. On the back, you now have AC vents and two charging points below them – one is a Type A port while the other is a Type C. This greatly enhances the rear seat experience. Overall, Maruti Suzuki has worked to make the cabin of the 2022 Brezza look and feel like a more premium, fresh, more space than the previous model.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza New vs Old: Safety

This is a key area where Maruti Suzuki has taken giant leaps with the Brezza 2022. The SUV now gets many more safety features like a 360-degree camera and a head up display. The older Vitara Brezza came with two airbags even in top trims, but this number has now been increased to six. However, you'll have to opt for the top-spec ZXi+ to get six airbags, while the trims below that get just two. In addition, the newer Brezza also has Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill Start Assist as standard equipment.

Technically, the Brezza will get a new engine with the 2022 update, but it's not drastically different. You still have the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, but now it has dual-flow technology. Compared to the K15B engine of the previous model, the newer K15C engine is more economical, but has a little less power and torque. To be precise, power is down by 2bhp, while torque is down by 1.2Nm. While you may not notice the missing ponies as much, you will certainly appreciate the improved mileage. The old models had a claimed mileage of 18.76 kmpl, the new one boasts a maximum mileage of 20.15 kmpl.

In addition, there is also a new gearbox option. Maruti Suzuki has replaced the previous 4-speed torque converter with a new 6-speed automatic transmission. You can even play around a bit more with this new automatic transmission thanks to the presence of paddle shifters. In case you opt for the manual version, you'll be greeted by the same old five-speed unit from the previous iteration.

Is all that enough to keep the Brezza crown under 4 meters.
